    thanks again. I got it working, yet, I am having an issue that the TB4 is not detected at boot, so for instance, I have my keyboard and mouse connected to a hub and then to the TB4 in the card, but I cannot for instance, get into BIOS using the keyboard and even after the windows screen, it takes a several seconds for the keyboard to be recognized. any chance you know if there is a setting to make the card more readily available at boot?

      Sort of - that extra current capability will provide up to four times the amount of power to the devices plugged in to the USB-C connectors. Even without it, power will be provided, but it's light a 'fast' charger rather than an 'average' charger, and can support full power to larger devices (like a small to medium sized laptop).

      In my second job (1977 through 1981), I worked for DEC as a Field Engineer and repaired the entire line of PDP-11's, with the 11/70 being my favorite to work on. Then from 1981 through 1987, I was a corporate software support Engineer (and it helped I knew the hardware very well), followed by a systems programmer, on that same line of systems. The software (including the Operating System) was custom created by that company. I should make a video (or hold a live stream) just talking about some of my experiences back then as first a hardware then a software engineer.

I am going to do the same, but I would like to use the old hard drive and connect it to the esata port on the back of the nor. Do I need just an esata connection on one end of the cable and on the other end a connection for the hard drive to power the hard drive or do I need a power supply as well to run the hard drive? I really would appreciate you feed back. Thank you very much. Great video's btw

    • @PE4Doers
      @PE4Doers 14 днів тому

      Three things you need to ensure: 1) you will need SATA Power for the drive. You might be able to simply add a small power supply to your external hard drive, but the posses some risk depending on whether that power supply is meant to power SATA. I think you should invest in an external enclosure that support an eSATA drive (they cost between $25 and $40, depending on whether you want it to also support USB connections). 2) Is that drive you want to use a 'Security" drive (Green labelled usually)? Although any drive may work for a while, the massive number of continuous 'writes' of middle-sized snippets from the camera, would cause a drive not meant to handle that heat up quickly and continuously. I have read a article that you should only expect about half the usable life if not engineered for security systems. 3) The REOLINK disk controller on my unit only supports two drives at a maximum size or 6TB. You may have a newer mode that supports more, but you should double check that manual and the specifications for you system.

    • @PE4Doers
      @PE4Doers 17 днів тому

      It sounds like you have an ARGB fan (that Only worked at 5-volts), and a legacy RGB connector (that only outputs 12-volts) on your motherboard. See if there is also an ARGB connector. If not, do not plug it in, or you will blow something out, most likely the Fan, but you could also trip the over-current sensor in your Power Supply, which you can reset by turning your PC off for at least five minutes.

      @PE4Doers 21 день тому

      You should always check for BIOS updates. In fact, there was another one issued for this motherboard just a week ago, which I updated just yesterday while the board is still outside the case. Also, I do not believe you need an update for the 13th Gen CPU's, only the 14th. But it is not an update you need to get the system to boot, just some additional features that will be enabled. Also, this motherboard has the ability to boot without a working BIOS in it, since it can Flash the ROM directly following a simple procedure shown in the User manual toward the end. So, if you accidentally corrupt the BIOS, you will not have 'Bricked' the motherboard since you can easily recover with a USB stick, and visiting the ASUS Website to download the latest working version.

    Hi, I have a question or two. Let me explain. Soon I will move to a new home which will be wired with CAT5e. So here the situation, I'm sure that all cables will converge into a small room, and a few rooms in the house will have only one ethernet jack outlet per room. I know I will have a switch to manage all connections in the "network" small room, but since I will only have one ethernet jack in a room where I need more than one device needing a connection, can I set up another switch to connect a few devices? Is this possible without degrading the connection? Thank you.

    • @PE4Doers
      @PE4Doers 21 день тому

      That generally works fine, unless your main switch is very low-quality. I assume you will be using 1G networking with PoE. Correct? If you are going faster than 1G, or require PoE, then there many be issues.

      My go to is the NEXIGO Iris as a Webcam with great features. I use it for all my Zoom sessions (since I have a second side-hustle where I teach my hobby). In terms of a higher end 'versatile' camera, for that I use the Sony ZV-E10. I use mine mostly with a gimbal for videos outdoors and on the move, but prior to getting my ZV-E1 (a 'much' more expensive camera, which is now 'mostly' my studio camera for UA-cam content creating), the ZV-E10 was the top of my use list. I hope I've helped. Thanks for the comment, really. You've actually given me an idea for one of my next Camera videos 🙂

      Thank you for the comment. Yes, I still use my Batmax batteries in two of my three Sony ZV-x cameras. They work 'ok'. Compared to Sony batteries however, after more than a year they only last half as long as the Sony's. I still believe I've made out ok however, since they are less than 1/3 the price (even today). I only use Sony batteries however, in my highest-end ZV-e1 (which cost more than three times my other two Sony cameras. I hope that helps.

    Masking tape is the skin/manila folder color tape for “masking” items you don’t want to paint. Today, most people use the blue painters tape which is essentially masking tape that comes off a lot easier. The tape you are using is called electrical tape and should not be used for wire connections. It’s used more as a preventative, covering a small nick. or temporary fix. You’re better off using shrink tubing after soldering

    Late to the game question. Why are there (2) separate PLED + and - locations?

    • @PE4Doers
      @PE4Doers 24 дні тому

      I have seen that on Motherboards for quite a few years. My 'guess' is that it is possible for a case to the Power connector contained in a two-pin socked, or two separate one-pin sockets to give the installer the option of plugging it in either way. Although, the only ones I have ever seen are two one-pin sockets. Another possibility could be a three-pin socket, that some labelled vendor preferred using at one time, and nobody wanted to catch flack for not supporting that. As I said, my answer her is mostly hypothesis.
